"Collecting Stories"
Laynfaroh Publishers
Tom is a lifelong friend who has become one of America's art scholars. His collection is massive but his attitude and humor is toally grounded. This book is about his father, himself to a certain degree, and his sons. It is just not another tomb about (a) old painters, (b) old art styles, and (c) old art. The artwork comes alive as he describes his father's collecting and how it effected Tom's tastes and in turn how he is inducing a love of art in his two sons. The book is readable, purely and simply. Buy it and spend a week-end enjoying some art education laced with everyday language and spots of humor. Again it is a good read. (OK, Tom I did it. Now you owe me a dinner). Please visit his website to see all of Laynfaroh's publicataions.

Anne Mann
A member of Plein Air Artists of Colorado and my sister
Two huge black labs charge my easel on the quiet dirt tract. Their owner is nowhere in sight. Have I made an error in judgement by coming out here all alone to paint? As I move slowly up onto the tail gate of my car, I reach behind me for my unfinished sandwich. A quick toss and we become instant tail waggin' friends. If someone had told me that fending off stray dogs, rising at five to catch the atmospheric effects of the sunrise on a mountain top and risking heat stroke or frost bite were part of the plein air artist's job description, I might have studied harder in math class !'
A graduate of Pennsylvania State University, Anne Mann credits her watercolor professor, George Zortech, with guiding her though the basics of this demanding medium. Later, she studied with Betty Stroppel, AWS, who generously shared her vast knowledge of watercolors with her students. Stroppel's teaching skills and dry sense of humor served as inspiration to Mann, who at the time was teaching in New Jersey schools as an itinerant art teacher. Mann then went on to study classical oil painting with Brian Townsend of the DuCret School of Art.

Chet Dowell Photography
A friend and pretty darn good wildlife photographer
Chet was born and raised in southeastern Colorado, and now lives on a small farm in West Virginia with his wife Nellie. He has had no formal training in photography, but started in wildlife (by far the most difficult venue) and now has expanded to may different types of studies. He has been marketing his product at art festivals for years and has been a regular on the festival circuit for what seems like generations. A regular fixture if you will. He still shoots film in Cannon equipment, using fuji film, and printing of the big Epson 4000 printer. He must be doing well with his business because that printer is top of the line for quality as well as cost. To see just how well he does, please visit his website as an alternative source of images.

Christine Diehlmann
Photographer and palette knife oil painter = "Artist" and good friend
Christine Diehlmann's marine and waterfowl photographs are in private and corporate collections thoughout the United States. She finds her inspiration on the Chesapeake Bay and the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
Christine specializes in Schooner portraits. By capturing these beautiful boats on film, she seeks to recreate images of the days of sail on the Chesapeake as well as record for history what it was like sailing the bay at the turn of the century. Christine's husband, Captain Bill Diehlmann, is her chase boat operator. His skillful maneuvers make her spectacular photo shots possible.
Christine Diehlmann is also a palette knife oil painter, a signature member of the International Society of Marine Painters and a member of several national and local art organizations.

My interest in lighthouses dates back to 1990 when we published the first "Lighthouses of Maryland" poster, now in the third printing with over 12,000 of them sold. I have since then formed a great friendship with the folks at the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse in North Wildwood, New Jersey. Actually a little town by the name of AngelSea. Please visit their home page

If you are ever in South Jersey during the summer, it is a must place to see. A victorian lighthouse with just the most amazing victorian gardens one can imagine. For an article I wrote for Wikepedia, click on the following link and then the discussion section and have fun.
